Which Song Would You Choose?
Have you ever walked into a busy building or event and thought about how cool it would be to have music playing as you made your appearance? I mean, athletes get intro music. Why can’t I walk into the office, and simultaneously have the lights dim as the suiting motivational beat of my favorite song floods the room? I really believe that this would make everyone’s day a little better.Which song would you choose?Music is a part of creative expression that I have always been infatuated with. Different instruments create different emotions, certain tempos can balance out a fear, and some artist voices can even become your escape route from reality. I would listen to music over watching Netflix on any given day for this very reason. Balance is beautiful, and sometimes the only thing that can settle the extremist attitude in me is a lullaby.I recently went to war with my biggest fear. If it wasn’t for the strength of the Lord, I would have bailed without hesitating. During this time, God surrounded me with the people that I needed, who he equipped with perfect gifts of positive strength, and peace to help me conquer my “Goliath”. The anxiety and stress from preparing was stirring an adrenaline of waves inside of me so much that I was unconsciously craving a peaceful escape from the storm within. One of the consistent gifts that kept my spirit steady was music. I believe that songs and worship can inspire anyone to defeat their giant, whatever it may be.
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart; I will tell of all Your wonders. Psalm 9:1 NASB
Different journeys in life pack various themes of music. As a lover of words, it’s awesome to recognize that each lyric means something different to each ear that it possesses. On the brink of my most recent leap of faith, the song “Shepherd” by Amanda Cook came to mind very aggressively. If you’ve ever heard the song, you might be wondering why I use the word “aggressive” to describe such blissful worship.Leaps of faith are scary. Moments when you are giving every ounce of your heart to something much bigger than you are terrifying. I say “aggressively” because while God had brought me somewhere foreign once again, he strongly promised His love in the dark, he reminded me of His steadfast guidance through the congestion and speed, and gave me a beautiful battle cry. In this song, Amanda Cook says “…in every season of the soul, teach my heart to sing.” Come what may, is what I comprehend. I have all I need through my faith and the Lord.If you could choose one song to share, which would you choose? Has God ever used music to pave an untraveled path for you?
