What Wisdom Has Taught Me About Trusting God
When I was a child, I would see and hear the adults talking about trusting God and how God meant everything to them and their families. As a child, you have that blind faith, and you don't question much. Belief usually happens because your parents told you so. Or, you believe because your teachers told you it was so. You believed because your brothers or sisters told you so. If you were blessed to have grandparents who were believers, you believed because your "grandma" or "grandpa" believed.
Dorothy Norwood sings a song, and the words are as follows:Somebody prayed for me, had me on their mind,They took the time and prayed for meI'm so glad they prayedI'm so glad they prayed for meMy mother prayed for me, had me on her mind,She took the time and prayed for meThe preacher prayed for me had me on his mindHe took the time and prayed for me.If it were not for people praying for us, most of us would not be where we are today. Some people would love for you to believe that they have it together at all times. However, for us that don't, we believe in the prayers of others to help get us through. Some of you may ask, does that mean that you don't trust in God.Absolutely No! It means that because I trust in God, I know that where two or more are gathered together, there is power. 18-20 “Take this most seriously: A yes on earth is yes in heaven; a no on earth is no in heaven. What you say to one another is eternal. I mean this. When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.” Matthew 18:18-20 MSG
Tough and difficult times will come. Sometimes in our lives, we experience disappointments, failures, death, loss of relationships, etc. Just because we experience tough times does not mean God has forgotten you or that there is no God. God is the same always. God never changes. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 It is our responsibility to trust God. So what does trust mean? Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, ability, or strength of someone or something. When you believe and trust that God knows all, sees all and is everywhere, you will begin to trust His plans and directions for your life. Our God is sovereign.
You cannot trust God if you do not believe in Him. To believe in God you must accept His son as your Lord and Savior. When you believe you accept that something is true and many times without proof. It is possible to believe someone but not trust them until they earn your trust entirely. So, trust is an act. The act of reliance based on accepting something as true. Therefore, once you accept Jesus, you begin to believe and trust God.
