Tofu Recipes that Non-Vegetarians Should Try

Do you want to introduce some tofu into your cooking? These delicious tofu recipes are sure to delight the everyone, including non-vegetarians.  Make them together for a scrumptious get-together dinner.

Teriyaki Tofu

Ingredients

  • One 14 ounce package firm tofu, drained and rinsed

  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed or canola oil

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons sake or dry vermouth

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 2 teaspoons rice vinegar

  • 1/2 medium red onion, diced

  • Chopped cilantro, to garnish

Directions

  1. Pat the tofu dry with paper towels to remove excess water.

  2. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

  3. Heat a large skillet over high heat.

  4. Add the oil and after the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu into a single layer

  5. Turning gently and as little as necessary, sear each side for 2-3 minutes, or until at least 2 -3 sides are golden and crisp.

  6. Lower the heat to medium.

  7. Add the soy sauce, sake (or vermouth) brown sugar, and rice vinegar to the pan with the tofu.

  8. Stir in the red onion.

  9. Cook for 30 seconds and then remove from heat.

  10. Garnish with cilantro and serve warm or at room temperature.

Kale, Tofu & Cherry Tomatoes in White Wine Sauce

Ingredients

  • One 14 ounce package firm tofu, drained and rinsed

  • 3 tablespoons grapeseed or canola oil, divided

  • 1/2 medium onion, sliced

  • 1/2 cup dry white wine

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon spicy brown mustard

  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

  • 4 cups lightly packed chopped kale

  • 1/2 cup halved cherry tomatoes

Directions

  1. Pat the tofu block dry with paper towels to remove excess water. Cut into 1-inch cubes.

  2. Heat a large skillet over high heat.

  3. Add 2 tablespoons of oil and after the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu into a single layer.

  4. Sear each side for 2-3 minutes, or until golden and crisped.

  5. Remove the tofu from the pan and set aside.

  6. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining tablespoon of oil.

  7. Stir in the onions, and cook for 2-3 minutes or until soft and lightly golden.

  8. Stir in the white wine, lemon juice, mustard, and salt.

  9. Simmer for 30 seconds and then stir in the kale and tomatoes.

  10. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer for about 1 minutes or until kale is tender.

  11. Toss tofu with the kale and serve warm.

Serve with pita bread, hummus, and rice for a classy dinner for two or the whole gang.
