Is Taking A Knee During the National Anthem A Form of Protest or Disrespect?

Freedom of speech is an American right. It’s in the constitution and no law or religion can take that away. People should have the right to choose what we believe in. We also have the right to protest anything we feel is wrong in order to make a difference. There has been a consistent uproar of people protesting since the 2016 Presidential election and since Donald Trump became President. Many people believe he is unqualified to be President because of his racist comments and insensitive feelings toward women and people of color.More and more people are taking a stand against any form of unfairness and racism. The NFL is even demonstrating protest by kneeling during the national anthem. Many people including Donald Trump are against taking a knee while others support the NFL for taking a stand. There is a national discussion asking if taking a knee is a sign of disrespect or protest?

Why Are NFL Players Taking A Knee?

Teams and players have taken a stand by kneeling instead of standing during the national anthem. They are protesting to show their disbelief to a country that has continued to oppress black people. It began months before Donald Trump became President. Many people of color are fed up with the way black people are prosecuted and killed. NFL players like Colin Kaepernick and other football players are continuing to take a knee in order to protest. The national anthem is defined as a song of honor and positively to reflect the perseverance of this country. The Back Lash of Taking A Knee

Ever since players and teams have been taking a knee there has been an outrage of backlash against it. He and his supporters are doing whatever they can to shame any football players that partake in the protest. Donald Trump has threatened them with taking away more than football. My Opinion On Taking a Knee

America is the greatest country on earth, however, there is still a major need for improvements. This country presents itself as a country that treats everyone equal and provides opportunities for all. Yet there are constant problems with the way blacks and other people of color are treated; from police brutality to the never-ending racism we as black people face. The NFL players are peacefully protesting by taking a knee during the national anthem. In comparison to the kneeling many other players have stood and locked arms during the national anthem. If we as a nation could band together and do more to prevent racism things could change. What are your thoughts on NFL players taking the knee? Do you think this form of peaceful protest is a sign of disrespect?
