The Reason Why Christmas Is A Pagan Holiday

The definition of pagan means a person holding religious beliefs other than those of the main world religions. The reason why Christmas is a pagan holiday goes back to where the traditional celebration came from. The real birth date of Christ is unknown it’s celebrated on December 25th because that’s the day the Romans worshipped the sun god. The Roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and combined the sun god with the worship of Christ. A few years later Pope Julius I officially declared the birth date of Christ would be celebrated December 25th.The leaders of Christianity accepted the conversion and saw the Christmas celebration as a process of converting to the pagan world. Even before Constantine Christians condemned pagan rituals, but took over pagan temples and made them into Churches. They also replaced old gods and holy days of paganism with heroic martyrs, and festivals of the Christian year.

Origins of the Christmas Tree and Other Christmas Traditions

The main culprit behind the other traditional celebrations of Christmas is commercial propaganda and marketing. From the biblical standpoint, the festivities and gift giving came from Saturnalia. It’s an ancient Roman festival in honor of the god Saturn. During these festivities, the Romans would party, drink, gamble, exchange gifts, and masters would serve slaves. The rituals of buying gifts are apart of Christmas also because of the gifts are given to Jesus the day he was born.Christmas trees originally referred to as an evergreen fir tree started being used to celebrate Christmas because of Saturnalia. Romans used Fir Trees to decorate their temples at the festival of Saturnalia.St. Nicholas went back hundreds of years and was named after a monk. He is believed to be around 280 A.D. in Turkey. He became known for many legends and was admired for his kindness. Legend has it he gave away all his money he inherited and went to help the sick and poor. His popularity later spread to him being the protector of children.

Should We Stop the Way We Celebrate Christmas?

Despite all the research, there isn’t a clear answer as to whether or not we should stop the traditional ways we celebrate. For the people with no religious beliefs, it’s easier for them to celebrate in the traditional ways. If you have religious beliefs especially if you’re Christian, then it’s best to change the way the way you celebrate. The best way to accurately celebrate the birth of Christ would be to celebrate on the actual birth date. In the Bible, it says the shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus birth. They could not be in the fields during December because of the extreme cold weather. Jesus was more likely born in late summer or early fall. As far as gifts, trees, and Santa remember there are other ways to celebrate the birth of Christ. God loved us so much that He gave His only Son to die for us. We should remember that and give Him the proper celebration.
