Why You Must Always Be True to Yourself

Ever since we have been born, there will be individuals guiding us and helping us along this path we call life. Our parents, siblings, teachers, friends, and other family members can make suggestions and even direct us towards what might be best for us. However, despite what others may think of us, we must always be true to who we are.

False Identity and Lack of Life Satisfaction

Why is this so important? If you fail to remain true to yourself, your false sense of identity will begin to take over. What you continue to desire and lack in your life will manifest itself in other ways. For example, if you are choosing a career based on what your parents decide for you, your dissatisfaction will show up in other areas of your life. Not only will you be uninterested in the prospective career, but you may begin to doubt your own ability to know what it best for you.

True to Yourself in Everything

Knowing what is best for you is important in things both big and small. You must know your importance and worth. From deciding what to wear for the day or what to eat for lunch to purchasing a new car or deciding if you should go on a second date with someone, every decision you make should be yours. What you decide happens to your life should be true to who you are.

Consequences for Not Listening to Yourself

If you do not follow what is true for you, you will begin to think of yourself as unimportant. You will put others before yourself and doubt your own ability to make decisions. Your false sense of self will take over for fear that you cannot be accepted for your true self.

A Genuine & Authentic Life

When you let go of the need to please others and make them happy, you can begin to focus on your desires for your life. This is the only way to be genuinely and authentically happy and to live a life of integrity. No one knows what is best for you more than you do.

You Control Your Happiness

As you begin to make more decisions and be true to yourself, you will realize that you are in control of your happiness. You can design your life that way you see fit. You can desire to work a part time job and work towards owning your own business. You may want to change careers; you have the power to do so. If you desire to leave an abusive or unsatisfying relationship, you can do it. Anything from going back to school, getting into shape, or making new friends is possible once you realize it.

Design Your Life for You

You should also be able to enjoy your interests and passions without worrying about what others think. Embrace your strengths and weaknesses – they make you who you are. If you enjoy food, enjoy it! Take pictures. Travel around the world. Have kids or do not have kids. Get married or stay single. When you are true to yourself, you can be happier and live your true purpose in this world. You will also inspire others to do the same.
