Kingdom Corner: Deep Spiritual Communion
What is deep spiritual communion? There are many aspects to this way of living, so let’s get started.
Walking the Talk
The first step in deep spiritual communion is to walk your talk seriously. If you love God and know His Word, be the best example you can be for His love and compassion. You have to get yourself to this point before deep spiritual communion can come forth. Do you forgive easily? Help others? Love others even when they aren’t very loving back? The closer you align your behavior with that of Christ, the more easily this spiritual communion will come.
You may wonder what this means considering we all have things we must do that require our attention, right? Exactly, but mentally praying and offering all of your activities to God is what is meant. Work like God is your boss. Shop for groceries while offering prayers of thanks for the food you can buy and eat. Offer prayers for angry drivers. Pray for your prayer list at Church. Especially, pray for yourself if your mood takes a turn. Offer everything to God in this way, and you will find that your life becomes so free from strife you’ll wonder how you ever managed previously.
Make a plan to read the Bible every day at the same time. Start with the Gospels and read the New Testament first so you can understand Jesus’ message completely. Then, go back and read the Old Testament. Dedicate yourself to this. Make the Bible a priority in your life, and you will find a feeling of peace that surpasses all understanding. Find a Bible study or start a Bible study group in your own home. Make it a special night for you and your Church friends to gather, have a snack potluck, and discuss Bible topics. You will have something spiritually fulfilling to look forward to. Your circle of friends can all lift each other up in prayer if there are pressing needs. The prayers of a whole circle of Christians is mighty. For Christ said to us:
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them Matthew 18:20 NIV
Learn to rely on your spiritual brothers and sisters. Christians need each other in today’s trying times. Powerful healings, spiritual gifts, and miracles can happen when you pray together. Don’t forsake the opportunity. You can start one on your own through your Church.
Deep spiritual connection to Christ can be reached when your love of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit reaches a point in which you continuously are in God’s grace. Meditate upon the name of Christ by saying, “Jesus, have mercy” or “Jesus I adore you.” Close your eyes and remember all the great things God has done for you and others you know. Count the times He’s given you just what you need. Make it a loving session between the heart, mind, and soul with Christ. The more you sit and practice this, the easier it will become. Enjoy the quiet time of deep communion. Listen to any feelings, messages or directives that may come to you while you meditate. God will sometimes speak to our hearts when we quiet ourselves. That’s why this is so important. We often pray so much we forget to listen. These steps will bring you into full spiritual communion with Christ and the Father if you follow them. There is no doubt that God wants you to grow spiritually. So what are you waiting for? Open your hearts and let God transform you!
