Kingdom Corner: A Proverbs Family
The Proverbs family lives the ways of the Bible together. This family is tight-knit, and they know their individual roles regarding what they are responsible for. King Solomon wrote Proverbs in an attempt to share his begotten wisdom with others. Let's look at some of his wisdom and how it applies to the family.
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding. Proverbs 3:13 NIV
Men have a God-Given responsibility to be strong, courageous, and wise in their counsel; living the life of a leader for their families. They should be ready to live a good example of Christ inside and outside of the home. They have the job of disciplining children and supporting their wives both emotionally and financially.
Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. Proverbs 31:23
In other words, the husband is respected in the community, at church, and by his peers. He looks for ways to improve and goes to God in prayer asking Him for guidance. The husband is the head of the household, as is Christ the Head of the Church. He is gentle in spirit. Not quick to be angry. He is forgiving and kind.
The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. Proverbs 14:1
Women are to be uplifting to their husbands. They should be even-tempered so that she doesn't tear her marriage apart with her doings. Wives should work hard daily, just like her husband at whatever tasks she oversees. She should help raise the children in the ways of the Lord. Wives shouldn't give their husbands any reason to doubt their loyalty, and the husbands should return this loyalty.
An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones. Proverbs 12:4
Together, a God loving, holy couple will not only honor God but will also bring honor to one another.
