In the midst of the strobing, dewey, lit-from-within complexion craze, matte lips are one of the hottest beauty trends this fall. It seems like every major cosmetics brand is coming out with their own take on how to achieve the perfect, matte lip. However, there are a few things to keep in mind if you want to pull off this sought-after trend. If you're looking for something that will dry completely and last throughout the day, a long-wearing liquid lipstick is your best bet. But, if you love creamier formulas and easy application, traditional tube lipsticks with matte finishes are not hard to find. Either way, your lips are sure to look amazing going into the holiday season. Here are some of my favorite formulations and tips to make your lips magnificently matte this fall!Liquid Lipsticks:Boy, do these last! Don't be fooled by the gloss-like tubes and doe-foot applicators; these are opaque, dry down fully matte, and stay put through eating, drinking, and even a smooch or two. Keep in mind that these can sometimes feel drying on the lips--part of what helps them last so long. If you don't mind that, or if you have an occasion where you won't be able to touch-up often, these are perfect!

Traditional Lipsticks:

Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, $26
Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in After Dark, $22
Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Craving Coral, $8.29

So many companies have come out with brand new and reformulated lines of matte lipsticks, it's hard to decide what to buy! These usually have a creamier consistency, though there are dryer formulas out there. Keep in mind that just because they appear matte, they may not be long-wearing. These are more likely to transfer than the liquid versions, but in my experience they still last longer than traditional lipsticks.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub, $9.95

With the matte lip trend in full swing as we head into the colder months, it's also important to keep your lips moisturized and exfoliated! Not only will exfoliating your lips keep them soft and relieve chapping, it will also help matte lipsticks go on smoother and apply more evenly. Here is my absolute favorite lip scrub that just so happens to smell (and taste!) like a Thin Mint cookie! How are you rocking the matte lipstick trend this season?
