Devotional: Breaking Thought Patterns
Scripture for the Day
Don’t live the way this world lives. Let your way of thinking be completely changed. Then you will be able to test what God wants for you. And you will agree that what he wants is right. His plan is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2 NIRV
Our mind is our most important weapon and is the most active battleground Spiritually. When we read this verse, Paul was explaining to the church in Rome about the key of changing our thought patterns. He was addressing their Identities and how to continue forward with the new way of life they chose when they became Christians.
What Are Thought patterns?
A habit of thinking in a particular way, using particular assumptions. They formed according to experiences and the things that surround us. Your atmosphere is important. Which is why Paul begins the verse with “Don’t live the way this world lives” that in itself is hard! We are surrounded by negativity, and more importantly, the enemy has surrounded us with lies. Lies we believe about ourselves; that we are not good enough. That we don’t have what we need to go forward. We believe what our parents, friends, the world and everything around us says about us. Imagine all that pressure and you live with that all your life. Believing you’re not beautiful because you’ve been told that since you were a kid. Then you meet Jesus accept him as your Lord and Savior and with that He promises to give you an abundant life. Sounds wonderful, right? But how do we break those thoughts? They are still there after we accepted him.
Breaking Thought Patterns
See that’s why Paul kept writing about this. He addressed this issue again in Ephesians when he wrote to the Church of Ephesus. You were taught not to live the way you used to. You must get rid of your old way of life. That’s because it has been made impure by the desire for things that lead you astray. You were taught to be made new in your thinking. You were taught to start living a new life. It is created to be truly good and holy, just as God is. Ephesians 4:22-24 NIRV
Steps to Breakthrough
The first thing you need to do to start renewing your mind is to read the Word of God. How are you to know what God has promised and what God wants if you don’t know it? Declare those words, even this verses every day. The power of declaring the word of God is key. The woman with the blood issue that we read in the gospels spoke to herself. Telling herself that if she could only touch part of the garment, she will be healed. Talk to yourself. Say that you are a child of God. Speak life into your situation.Erase those lies and say and declare boldly that you are beautiful. You are successful. Don’t let the world that you live in dictate who you are. Believe what God wants for you. You have a new life in Christ and with that comes a new mind. Sometimes you must start from zero, eliminate the people that speak negativity in your life. Changing friends might seem drastic at first but sometimes is necessary.Surround yourself with people that will lift you up. Watch what feeds you. What you watch, what you read is feeding either your flesh or your soul. Be careful and always moving forward. You are important, and there is purpose inside of you. If you change your thought patterns, you will become what God created you to be. You will see and understand that He wants the best for you.
