The Best Kid-Friendly Halloween Movies
Growing up, Halloween was my favorite holiday. I impatiently waited for October to roll around on the calendar. Like most kids, I enjoyed playing make-believe on the 31st. Because of my overly active sweet tooth, I would grin with excitement at just the thought of gobbling down handfuls of candy after trick-or-treating. However, those are not the reasons for my childhood obsession with Halloween. I was a Halloween fanatic because I loved the Halloween movies that arrived as a package deal with the ghostly themed month. So much so, I named my cat Binks.Truth be told, that obsession for the last day of October still resides in me. I can never contain my excitement when the calendars finally strike October 1st since the Halloween themed movies start to take over Disney Channel and Freeform. Now, I'm in my twenties, and the excitement of a Halloween movie marathon still sends a surge of excitement through my body. In my opinion, all of the best Halloween movies are the ones geared towards children. Below is a list of kid-friendly Halloween movies that are sure to get your children in the spirit for All Hallows' Eve.
This Halloween classic is an all-time American favorite. Nothing represents Halloween better than the Sanderson sisters. Cuddle up next to a cozy fire, and take a trip to Salem with Binks, Allison, Max, and Dani this Halloween season. The best part is that you will get to enjoy this movie just as much as your kids.
Twitches and Twitches Too
Another Halloween movie that is great for witch enthusiasts is Twitches. Your children will watch wide-eyed with awe and excited as two long lost twins, Camryn and Alex, discover they are witches with magical powers and try to save their magical kingdom from darkness.
Casper Meets Wendy
Before this Halloween comes to an end, be sure to let your children watch Casper Meets Wendy. The young and spirited Wendy, played by Hilary Duff, and the classic Casper the Ghost bring an amusing energy to the 1998 film. Your children will love watching the ventures of the friendly witch and ghost.
Disney Channel offers the greatest Halloween movies. Sure, they are meant for children, but grown-ups can enjoy them, too. If you don't binge watch the Cromwell family’s adventures then, is it really Halloween? The tetralogy—Halloweentown, Halloweentown II, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown—is perfect for family nights during the coming month.
Mom’s Got a Date With a Vampire
This 2000 Halloween film is filled with suspense. When the Hansen siblings end up grounded, they set their mom up on a date, so they can easily sneak out and carry on with their nightly plans. However, they soon discover they actually set their mom up with a vampire. Watch your children’s eyes grow with innocent fear and anticipation as the Hansen kids try to save their mother from a blood lover.
The Haunted Mansion
Throw on your favorite Halloween pajamas and watch The Haunted Mansion. The Disney movie follows a family who visits a mansion; they soon realize ghosts inhabit the creepy, old estate. This movie is better fitted for older children considering its scarier content and more mature plot. Nevertheless, this Halloween movie will cause goosebumps to crawl up your older children’s arms while their hearts start pounding as any scary Halloween movie should do.
