Balancing Work & Life as a Millennial
Life often has a very fast pace, and the workplace grind can really sweep you away if you are not careful. It is important to keep a good balance between your career and your home life. Here are a few ways to manage your work and life balance as a millennial:
Find A Job That Caters to Your Needs
Whatever your field, you need to find a workplace that respects your time. How often do you hear about people never having enough time to do this or that because of work? Do not fall into that trap. It does not matter what your level of education is; focus on finding a job that respects you as an individual, and gives you the chance to work for opportunities. The best companies know that treating their employees right promotes a positive workplace environment. Fortune's list of the 100 Best Places to Work can give you some ideas of where you might fit in.
Efficiency is Key
Being more efficient, both at work and home will create more time for you to spend. Once you've put in time at your workplace, find the most effective way of doing things in the least amount of time. Practice it until it is second nature. Even if it is difficult, work it until it is routine. At home, find a method to work on those chores. Sort laundry into several specific bins so that you know exactly what you are washing at a given time. Find a cleaning and dusting order that gets through your home quickly and effectively. Better yet, make use of a Roomba to clean while you are away to cut down on the time you spend with the vacuum.
Work Like a Peasant, Live Like a King....
Once you find yourself in an ideal job, pursue it to the fullest. When you're on the clock, approach your craft with the consideration it deserves. Find ways to better apply yourself, look for opportunities to advance. You should never be satisfied with where you are or with the effort you put in; do not stress yourself, but never take it easy. All of the hard work you put in within the next few years makes every year of the rest of your life that much easier. Accept all challenges, apply yourself to all tasks and always look for ways to better yourself.
...But Maintain your Passions
Work might be a major part of life, but it is a means to an end. It can be easy to get swept up in paychecks, but keep your mind on your passions as well. When you clock out and take care of your chores for that day, find time for the things you are passionate about. Whatever it is, make the time to do it. You work so that you can do the things you love. If work ever keeps you from doing that, it is time to find a new job with the right balance. Always remember what drives you, and do not leave it by the wayside for any reason. Feeling overwhelmed by stress? Click here to learn a few different ways to deal with it!
