The 2017 American Music Award Predictions
Award season is in full effect with the American Music Awards airing Sunday, November 19, 2017. Dick Clark created it in 1973 after the network Grammy’s contract expired. The AMA’s is one of the only awards that basis the wins on the polls of the public and fans. Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond hosted the first American Music Awards in 1974. Nominations are based on sales, airplay, social media, and video viewing. This year Diana Ross will be receiving the American Music Award Lifetime Achievement. There will be performances by Iggy Azalea, One Direction, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Lorde, and Bruno Mars. As a fan of many of these artists, I have my predictions of which artist will win in this year’s AMA’s.
Artist of the Year: Bruno Mars
This year the AMA nominees for Artist of the Year are The Chainsmokers, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran. Each of these artists is very talented and successful, but I predict Bruno Mars will take this award.Bruno Mars is not the most nominated artists this year; however, he has been nominated several times for the AMA’s. He has several fans that love his Rock, R&B, and Funk music. His album 24K Magic was released in 2016 and his single, That’s What I Like, has done outstanding on the Billboard Hot 100 list. Additionally, he has sold more than 130 million records worldwide. I’m truly hoping my prediction is right and Bruno Mars wins Artist of the Year.
Favorite Female Artist Pop/Rock: Rihanna
Rihanna is one of the most influential female artists in the world. Her music, fashion, and new cosmetic line are taking the world by storm. Her social media presence is outstanding when it comes to marketing. Rihanna's single Work, with Drake, was number one on the Billboard hot 100 lists. Her fan base is vast when it comes to casting votes. This year she should have it in the bag.
Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock: Ed Sheeran
I’m not as familiar with Ed Sheeran’s music, but a lot of times this category goes to a pop artist. Ed Sheeran is very talented and won this award in 2015. His third album was released in March of this year. It was number one in the US and UK. His singles, Shape of You and Castle on the Hill, broke records all over the world.
Video of the Year: Bruno Mars “That’s What I Like”
Bruno Mars' video “That’s What I Like” has over 992 million views. It’s one of the songs on everyone’s playlist and one of the best songs of the year. The other nominees include Ed Sheeran and Luis Fonsi; but, Bruno Mars is a shoe in.
Favorite Female Artist Soul/R&B: Beyonce
Beyonce has been a little under the radar musically after announcing the birth of her twins. She has done a phenomenal job with her surprise Lemonade album. Her social media presence is unlike any other artists'. With a single post, she has set media frenzy’s and kept people talking about her all year round. She’s also arguably the hardest working female artist and has won several AMA awards.
