Exam week can be a daunting experience. You may feel on edge, nervous, or even have a mental block. In this article, we will look at several ways to de-stress during exam week. It is my hope that these tips will help put you at ease and get through your exam week successfully.
Take A Break
The first thing you can do is to take a 10-minute break from your studies. Remember, just 10 minutes or so, not the whole night. Get up and do another activity that you enjoy for a few minutes. Check Facebook, Twitter or call a friend. Getting your mind off studying and hearing someone else’s voice can really shift your mood. It grounds you back in reality. Sometimes being so wrapped up in studying puts you in the academic mode that you forget there is anything other than that.
Take a break and fix yourself a healthy snack. Candy is not allowed! Fruit and nuts, veggies and dip are excellent choices. These will boost your brain power and give you the added energy needed to continue your studies. Don’t forget, your body is fueled on food so don’t neglect this important aspect during your exam week.
Stand up, stretch, and turn on some favorite tunes and just move. No one’s watching. So, dance your heart out. Go for a brisk walk outdoors. A change of scenery can help your brain refocus. Do some sit-ups, break a little sweat. This will pump your adrenaline and get your mind ready to take on a second wind.
I don’t know about you, but I always pray before I start anything. God is big enough to handle even the smallest of prayers. Sometimes just saying “Dear God, I know this is going to be tough, but I ask for your help during this study period…” is so powerful. Allowing God to take command will give you the faith and strength you need to continue on.
Practice these ways to de-stress during exam week and you should find that you have a clearer mind, calm disposition, and have the ability to concentrate deeply.
