Trying to get into shape can be tough, and there are often certain parts of our bodies that require more effort than others to sculpt and tone. One of those body parts are our abs. It seems like the upper part of our torso is easier to tone than the lower half, and it seems like no matter how hard we try, it just doesn’t work. Not to mention, the thought of working out makes you cringe. Getting your body into shape takes time and there are two things that we have to realize: a) our bodies aren’t magically going to tone themselves overnight, and b) changing the foods you eat can actually help to sculpt your abs.
According to Women’s Health Magazine, here are some ‘super foods’ to eat to help fight fat and build your abs:
- Spinach and other green, leafy vegetables
- Dairy products – yes, you can eat dairy but choose items that are low in fat or fat free
- Oatmeal (unsweetened, unflavored) – steel cut oats are best and if you need to sweeten it, use fresh fruits
- Turkey and other lean meats
In addition to eating leaner, healthier foods, it’s also important to exercise as well. Here are some fun, non-crunch involved ways to tone those abs, courtesy of Pop Sugar Fitness:
- Lying overhead reach
- Ball pass
- Seated Russian Twist
- Elbow plank
There are also other workouts you can do at home to help tone and sculpt your abs. Zumba is a personal favorite of mine. It’s a great form of cardio and it’s fun too! You can check out DVDs from the library or attend a class. Check out zumba.com to find a class near you! Yoga and Pilates are another great way to get toned, sculpted abs. It’s relaxing and challenging, and helps to stretch your muscles while building them.
No matter how you work out, just remember that building a great set of abs takes time! Don’t get frustrated if you don’t see results right away.
