Having beautiful hair doesn’t have to be a chore; nor do you have to use a ton of products. Today I’m sharing with you my tips and tricks for getting healthy beautiful hair.
Step Away From The Blow Dryer
Using a blow dryer constantly is one of the most common ways to damage your hair. Exposing your hair long term to heat can damage your ends and cause your hair to dry out. Instead, let your hair dry naturally. When you get out of the shower, dry your hair with a towel like you normally do, and then leave it alone. You can also use a cotton t-shirt. This helps prevent frizz, especially if you have really curly hair. If you are someone who has to use a dryer, use it every other time you shower. Also be sure that you use products that protect your hair from heat.
Olive Oil & Cider Vinegar
I know, it sounds like you’re about to turn your hair into a salad but trust me: this stuff is incredible. When I was younger, like most children nowadays, I went to daycare while my mom was at work. I had long, curly hair and for some unfortunate reason, I kept getting lice. Anyone else starting to scratch their heads now? Like most unsuspecting parents, my mom went to the drugstore and bought the over the counter lice remedies. You know, the ones that smell like bug spray and make your scalp feel as though it’s on fire?
She would treat my hair and less than two weeks later, the lice would return. After another failed round of treatment, my mom was eventually told to stop using those products and try a home remedy instead: olive oil and vinegar. In one treatment the lice was gone and has yet to return.
If you use a lot of product in your hair such as hairspray, gel, etc. cider vinegar is great for removing buildup and restoring your hair. It leaves your hair feeling soft and shiny. You may notice an occasional red tint afterward, but that is perfectly normal. Using olive oil (make sure it’s pure) conditions your hair and restores moisture, especially if your hair is really dry or damaged.
Your Hair Reflects Your Lifestyle
Believe it or not, your hair can also reflect your lifestyle. Much like your skin, your hair will tell you if something is wrong or if you are lacking key nutrients. Check out these key foods to eat for healthier, more beautiful hair.
Wash Your Hair Less
Even though it sounds strange, I only wash my hair once or twice a week depending on the buildup. We tend to think that our hair needs to be washed every other day, but realistically, depending on your hair type and how much oil build up you have, you really can get away with washing it once or twice a week.
It’s All About The Products
Sometimes the key to getting healthier, more beautiful hair requires some product. It all starts with your shampoo and conditioning regimen. When it comes to shampoo and conditioner, there’s nothing worse than having a product that makes your hair feel heavy and flat, especially if you have long, thick hair like I do. Your hair is already heavy enough; why add anymore weight to it? My favorite go to shampoo/conditioners are:
It gives you the moisture without the added weight. It also nourishes your scalp. Your hair is soft and manageable with added shine.
I’ve only begun using this shampoo and conditioner and I am in love with it. My hair is soft and manageable, and it has so much shine! It gives my hair the moisture it needs but it feels so light. My hair isn’t overly damaged but as someone who tends to pull her hair back a lot, I like that it protects against breakage.
