Community is a word that many tend to look down upon. When I used to think of community, I thought about people trying to get into other’s business. But, community is so very different. People who are a part of a community are there through the good and the bad times. They are there to help pick you up, pray for you and serve you in your time of need. Going through this broken world is hard enough without having a community to lean upon. This idea is not just for those who are single. I think that is often thought. Even families need a community.
We are told in the bible what happens when we gather as one.
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. Matthew 18:20 NIV
We are stronger as a group than as individuals; especially if God is on our side. Being alone doesn’t help us when we need it and it often times hinders us from talking to others.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another- and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
A community can encourage us to do the right thing when we have a hard decision to make. Those people who are a part of the community can also see when you are hurting. I often times remember going to church where my community met, and sat there with a happy face. However, there are those who got to know me so well that were able to tell that something was truly wrong. Instead of just ignoring me and letting me deal with my issues, they pulled me aside and asked how they could serve me. I didn’t know it at the time, but that was a huge blessing.
Don’t underestimate the power of community; especially in the darkest of times. They may be the ones who get you out of the situation.
