Tasty Tailgating Treats

Waking up early, dressing in your favorite team’s colors, painting your face, and leaving the house ready to celebrate is the American tailgating ritual. Even if you’re not a die-hard fan, everyone agrees that going to any sports game is always worth it if you’ve got good friends and some fantastic tailgating food. While hot dogs and hamburgers are a staple, they’re too predictable. Surprising friends with creative tailgating foods will surely make you the go-to snack provider for every party. Whether you’re packing food to eat before you head into the stadium or you’re hosting the party of the season right from your own living room, here are a few tasty tailgating snacks to satisfy everyone.

Caprese Skewers

Caprese salad is one of my favorite appetizers. Fresh mozzarella with a hint of basil is a burst of flavors to delight every taste bud. It’s fresh and light, but is still filling. Instead of packing forks, bowls, and the inevitable knife, downsize your caprese salad onto a toothpick. The only prep work involved is cutting the cherry tomatoes in half. Even if you make this snack at the last-minute, it won’t take long to prepare. Alternate between cherry tomatoes, mini fresh mozzarella balls, and basil leaves on a toothpick. You can fill the entire toothpick or just stick one of each on it, the choice is yours! Once you’ve assembled your ingredients on the toothpick, drizzle balsamic vinaigrette with a sprinkle of salt and pepper over it and you’re ready to rock your party.

Filipino Lumpia

Don’t let the name intimidate you, Filipino Lumpia is just another name for a spring roll. These are a tried and true crowd pleaser for every party I’ve made them for. The best part is, you can add any ingredients you want. Whether you’re going for a vegetarian theme, or you’re a seafood lover, these rolls will satisfy everyone. Plus, they’re quite filling, which is perfect for those who will be jumping around and cheering their team on. Filipino Lumpia is best while it’s still warm but I haven’t complained about eating these rolls cold yet.

Strawberry Fluff

I had you at fluff, right? While the fluff itself is anything but healthy, you can eat it with your favorite fruit. This is the perfect snack, especially if you’ve got picky eaters in your party. It’s kid tested and parent approved. All you’ll need is a container of marshmallow fluff and strawberry cream cheese to create this delicious confection. In a large bowl, mix both ingredients together and you’re ready to go. This dip is already very sweet, but if you’ve got an even sweeter tooth, Nilla Waffers are a fantastic dipper too. Make sure to bring some wet wipes, it can get pretty sticky!

Parmesan Ranch Snack Mix

This is the perfect savory pick for salt lovers. Even while you’re watching the game, this popcorn mixture will make it feel like you’re getting the movie goer experience. Mix a Hidden Valley Ranch Packet with olive oil and pour it evenly over your homemade snack mix. I suggest popcorn, pretzels, oyster crackers, and peanuts, but make sure everyone is okay if you add the peanuts. This is a great snack because you can make it the night before and keep it sealed in Tupperware or Ziploc bags and it’ll still be fresh the next day or two.
