Praying When You Don’t Feel Like It

I am not the greatest person at praying. I tend to forget to pray a lot and the only time I remember to pray is usually when something goes wrong. I don’t know why it is easier to pray when something is wrong. Perhaps we look for help and then we remember that we can pray and ask God for help knowing He will be by our side but I also begin to realize that I should be praying all the time.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 4:6-7 NLT

Prayer isn’t just for the bad times, prayer is a time for us to talk with God and hear from Him. Sometimes we can learn what His plan is when we pray and let Him answer. When we go through every moment of our day, we should be including God in every last moment. Sometimes people believe that God only answers prayers for help in life during bad times. However, asking God for something doesn’t have to solely be in the darkest of times. Of course, God is not a genie. He has a plan and sometimes what we want doesn’t fit into His plan because He has something a thousand times better for us.

“You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it”. Matthew 21:22 NLT

I’ve learned a lesson from waiting on God’s answer to my prayers. Sometimes God says no, and although we would never know why, God knows why He won’t answer a certain prayer. Sometimes the answer is no, not right now. We have to wait on God’s timing. Maybe we aren’t ready for our prayer to be answered because God has some work to do in our lives. Then there is the yes, but not in the way you think, answer. We can want something in our lives, but God has a slightly different idea of the answer to our prayers.
No matter what the answer is to our prayers, we should always pray. We should never be afraid to talk to Him about anything. After all, he is our Heavenly Father and He loves us dearly. Prayer allows us to grow closer to God, don’t give that up.
