Millennials Are Relocating to These Top 10 Cities

It seems like once you graduate from college the world is full of endless possibilities; relocation is one of them. You have the opportunity to move anywhere and start a new adventure. What should you look for when considering relocation? Are you relocating because of a job? Is the economy better than where you are now? Or are you choosing your location based on the nightlife and other activities offered?

According to the Miami Herald, these are the top 10 cities for relocation among millennials:

  1. San Antonio, TX
  2. Jacksonville, FL
  3. Tampa, FL
  4. Miami, FL
  5. Orlando, FL
  6. Oklahoma City, OK
  7. Austin, TX
  8. Charlotte, NC
  9. Raleigh, NC
  10. New Orleans, LA

Let’s take a more in-depth look at a few of these popular cities to find out what makes them so appealing.

San Antonio, TX

  • Affordable housing
  • History
  • Lifestyle
  • Unemployment rate – 3.4%
  • Weather

Austin, TX

Miami, FL

  • Lifestyle

I discovered something quite surprising during my research. While millennials are relocating to these bigger cities because of the economy, lifestyle, and job prospects, there is also another reason for relocating: love. PR Newswire suggests 46% of millennials relocate to be with their partner or to find their future spouse. And with that, we are also looking to be more suburban. Sarah House, an economist at Wells Fargo suggests this is because we are moving towards more traditional lifestyle patterns, but at a later stage in life. Think white picket fences and picturesque houses.

Research also suggests that millennials will change their careers at least once every two to three years, not because of unhappiness at their present job, but rather because of a need for a lifestyle change. Click here for more information.

Whatever the reason may be, millennials are on the move towards a more meaningful lifestyle and by relocating, this provides them with the opportunity to do just that.
