You’ve finally moved out and your new apartment is filled with all your belongings. Now you’re all by yourself. As you start to unpack and settle in you couldn’t be more excited, but as the weeks progress you start to realize that living alone is not that easy. Necessary tasks like lugging groceries up to your apartment, taking out the trash, paying bills and rent on time, cooking, and so on is all up to you now. Honestly, it can get a bit overwhelming especially when you’re simultaneously dealing with your work life and personal life. I’ve come to find that the more you start to incorporate certain things in your life at home, the better you get at conquering being and living like an adult.
Don’t be afraid to spend time with yourself
Spending time alone can be difficult at first if you’re not used to it, but with time you start to enjoy it and might even prefer it. You get to learn a lot about yourself and what you like to do, sometimes things you’ve never noticed before. You start to realize certain things about yourself, like getting flowers at the farmer’s market every Sunday or reading near the window in the morning or working out in the living room as opposed to going to gym. These are all exciting things that can make you start to like yourself and the way you like to do things in your new place.
Whether it’s playing your favorite albums on a record player or setting up your phone to a speaker and tuning in to a playlist, playing music is a great way to fill the silence in your space. Listening to your favorite songs puts you in just the right mood and can even motivate you to start doing some things around the house like cooking, cleaning, and even dancing.
Set the mood
When you come home from a long day at work all you want to do is relax. Putting in the effort to set that calming tone for the night can really make a difference. Start off by lighting a scented candle. The aroma of your favorite scent is beyond relaxing and makes your space look and feel comfortable and cozy. Setting up the table for dinner can additionally set the tone for a romantic night in for yourself especially if you’re accompanied by wine and dessert. You don’t need to be surrounded by people to have a nice dinner, especially at home.
Invite people over
Speaking of people, invite your group of friends over your place for game night, an intimate dinner, or even a party. Whatever your preference is, sometimes having company and getting to spend quality time with them indoors can be some of the best and most memorable times in your new space.
Living alone is not as scary or as boring as you may think. It’s a new chapter in your life where you get to finally do what you want when you want, so it’s important to make yourself feel at home.
