Kingdom Corner: The Friend at Night

This week we’re going to the Parable of the Friend at Night. In this parable, we are going to clearly see the two truths that Jesus teaches us on how to never give up in prayer and in our Christian lives.

Suppose one of you has a friend and you go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves, because one of my friends has just come to me on a journey and I have nothing to offer him.’ But that one replies from inside: ‘Stop bothering me. The door is already locked, and my young children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even if he will not get up and give him anything because of being his friend, certainly because of his bold persistence. Luke 11:5-8

Never Cease Praying

Jesus is directly talking about two things: prayer and advancing the Christian spiritual life. Jesus advises us to be as persistent and repetitive in our prayers. Remember, keep on praying in the hallway till the next door opens! God is working upstream in your life; pray until the blessings flow down to you. God always blesses his faithful ones. It may not be tomorrow, but God loves us and He will give us what we need right when we need it. God always has perfect timing. Just like the persistent neighbor late at night, let us keep on knocking, seeking, and asking God boldly for his wisdom and to give us a repentant heart so that we may draw closer to Him and receive the gift of his blessings.

Ask For God’s Wisdom

God is ready and willing to help guide your steps in your spiritual life. He will take your life and turn it into a thing of beauty and righteousness if you would but ask Him. God is your Father, Guide, Caretaker, Creator, and Protector. He knows exactly what you need, even if you don’t. Wisdom is one of the characteristics that God embodies. Trust in Him to transform you into one of his little sheep. He will nurture and guide you as you progress in your spiritual life, just as any loving Father would. Trust God enough to ask Him to take control and offer your life in His service. Never stop reading the Word and listening for God’s will in His commandments. He will bless you and reward you for your persistence just like the friend at night.
