Temptation is something all Christians deal with. Whether you are a new Christian or have been one all of your life, temptation is everywhere. Let’s discuss some practical ways that you can avoid temptation.
What are your strengths and weaknesses? If certain areas always tempt you; become aware of those. Everyone can flee from temptation by using the strengths that God has given them. What are those God-given strengths?
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Matthew 6:13 NIV
Jesus already knew we would be tempted. When he taught us to pray he included this to show us that praying for strength to flee temptation was necessary. When you’re faced with a temptation, say a quick prayer for the ability to choose the righteous choice.
Choose Good Friends
Your closest friends should understand that you have chosen a new life with Christ. They also will not try to force you into doing something against your faith. Choosing kind and compassionate friends will help you immensely. So, take an inventory of your friends. Make a wise decision to hang with only those who would help you, not hinder you.
Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character. 1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV.
God Wins, You Win
When you resist temptation, not only does this strengthen your relationship with your Heavenly Father, but it also strengthens your resolve. You will need that because the enemy does not rest and will try very hard to keep throwing roadblocks in your path. He will use your habits, your hang-ups, and other people to get you to sin. However, you already know this. It is plainly stated in the Bible.
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5: 8 NIV.
Don’t overlook this and be aware of your choices and interactions. God is there, waiting for your prayers and supplications. Look to him for help. He loves you and wants to help you overcome every battle you face.
