The New Year means a new beginning. Whether you’re planning to start over and lose weight, quit smoking, eat healthier, or just get fit, resolutions are aplenty. Did you know you can use this tradition to strengthen your relationship with our Heavenly Father? Why not make a new beginning with God?
Draw Close to God and He will draw close to you James 4:8 NIV
Our Father in Heaven knows that we live busy lives, but this year we can set a new resolve to faithfully read his Word every day. One way to do this is to find a one year Bible Study Plan online or on your phone with an app. My favorite is YouVersion. It has a large selection of Bibles, articles and a year plan that helps you follow along in less than ten minutes a day.
Another wonderful way to draw closer to the Lord is to use your fitness time to pray. I love to walk and pray while listening to uplifting music. God hears our prayers because He loves us by proof of the Holy Spirit dwelling within our souls. Romans 5:5. God wants nothing more than to be in your mind constantly, not just when you need something or remember you haven’t prayed in a while. I’m guilty of this too!
Fasting is the task of limiting the intake of something previously indulged upon. Fasting doesn’t just mean you give up meat or sweets. It can be anything from a behavior, habit, or manner of speech. If you want to make your relationship go really in depth with the Lord, fast for a week while praying each day and evening. You will see what a huge difference it makes when you put the Kingdom first. Matt 6:33.
I wish each and every one of you a very safe, and faith filled happy New Year.
