Healthy Smoothie Ideas for a Healthy Year

Smoothies are a great way to get the nutrients you need without compromising taste. Before the gym, as a meal replacement, or just as a snack time treat, shakes pack all the punch and deliver the great taste of fruits like strawberries and vanilla, and oatmeal or peanut butter. Protein? Check. Inconspicuous veggies like spinach? Check.

Try these out this season and you’ll love what you’ve been missing.

Cinnabon Smoothie

1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

2 tablespoons of peanut butter

1-2 cups almond milk

Cook the oatmeal, preferably in a pan filled with water on low heat. Add a dash of cinnamon. Next, add this to the blender or Nutribullet, the peanut butter, and almond milk and blend. Enjoy!

Wake Up! Refresh Strawberry Blend

1/2 cup spinach

Four large strawberries

1/2 cup coconut water

1/2 cup almond milk (however much is needed to fill up your cup)

Extra boost: 1-2 teaspoons Maca powder

Blend all these ingredients. First, add the liquid, then the solids. I promise you won’t taste the spinach! Get your vitamins in with this quick blend without having to down a salad. 🙂

Healthy Chocolate Shake

1 banana

2-3 tablespoons of organic cacao powder

1-2 cups almond milk or soymilk

Extra: 1-2 teaspoons maca powder for energy boost

Blend all and enjoy. You can also add some pistachios or cashews for extra flavor and nutrients/good fats. The banana in and of itself keeps the shake sweet but if you would like, you can add a little honey to taste.

Blueberry-Banana Healthy Protein Shake

A handful of blueberries

1 whole banana

1-2 cups almond or soy milk

1 scoop of a meal replacement shake or flavored protein powder

Extra: 1-2 tablespoons of organic peanut butter for even more protein boost

If it’s hot, maybe you’re having these in the afternoon, and you also want a quick and easy way to rev up your metabolism and burn fat, try freezing the fruits before adding them into the blender. This way you get a frozen treat and burn more calories…win-win.

Tip: As part of a health and fitness regimen, and also to burn fat, you can start and end your day with teas such as hot water with lemon and cinnamon sticks, in addition to these shakes. So yummy and healthy.
