Ever since we entered into this world, we begin to seek kind and loving relationships with those around us. As babies, we have to depend on others for our survival and well-being as without love we will not thrive and flourish. As we become older, we still rely on these relationships with our family and friends to provide us happiness and security. But what happens when the people we believe are closest to us disappoint us, break our hearts, and let us down? Does this shake your faith in that person or even in humanity? Perhaps you may think, If my mother cannot show me love, I must not be worthy of it. What we must realize is that we have to remain close to God no matter what happens to us because He loves us and will provide us with unwavering love and support.
Trust in the Lord
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 KJV.
This means that to matter what our circumstances, God will always be there to provide for us and to support us. If we are brokenhearted, He will provide healing. When we are tired, He will provide rest. If we ask God, He will give us what we truly need. We may not always understand why something happens to us, but God would not let us go through it without knowing that we can handle it. Perhaps your sister was unreliable, or you realized that your mother was not the person you thought she was. Or maybe a friend that you believed was like a brother to you turned out to be a backstabber. We cannot control what happens to us in life, but we can control how we react to it.
Trust in God & Love Others
By maintaining and growing our faith in God, we learn to rely less on other people. We seek Him for comfort, guidance, and wisdom. God becomes our refuge, our unshakable rock when those around us are unavailable or unreliable. When the shadows of life try to weigh us down, God will send us unexpected sunshine.
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in men. Psalm 118:8 KJV
God calls us to trust in Him and to love others. When we place our confidence in others, our faith can become shaky and unsure. However, when we put our faith in God, He can help us to withstand any adversity.
God is Love
If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31-39 KJV
No matter who has disappointed us or broken our hearts, we have to remember that we are not broken. God is guiding us and providing the incentive we need to make our lives better. God loves us and wants the best for us. No matter who we are, where we have been, or what we believe we have done to lose His love, He will be there for us. The love that God has for us is unconditional. He sees our true hearts and our real potential. We are His children. Although this can be harder to understand if your parents have not been loving, kind, and supportive. God is our universal father who can love us forever and heal us from the pain we experience in our lives; God is love.
