Cardio is often maligned as a necessary evil. Most people dislike the idea of running on a treadmill or climbing a stair-master for thirty minutes. But these are not your only options. Here are four ways to spice up your routine, and make cardio one of your favorite parts of the day.

HIIT, or High-Intensity Interval Training, is a form of cardio that pushes you to your extreme for thirty seconds to a minute. An example of this would be one thirty-second sprint for every minute of rest until you simply can’t anymore. Try incorporating HIIT into your routine to create a fantastic workout.
Cardio with A Friend
Working out with friends always makes the experience better. Include a friend in your aerobic routine to liven up the experience, and motivate yourself to keep going. Be careful not to get too wrapped up in conversation, lest it takes away from your workout. Still, having external motivation from your peers can keep your feet moving when you would otherwise want to stop.
Break Away from the Machines
Got a basketball court or soccer field nearby? Make an effort to try these cardio sources when your aerobic efforts start to get stale. Team sports are a full body ordeal and will burn some serious calories if you go all out during the game. Set up a get together with friends if pickup games are uncommon in your area. It will be great fun, and killer exercise. You could also involve yourself with any number of fitness classes like Zumba, spinning, or martial arts to scratch a social itch as well as shed some pounds.
