Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos

No matter where you are in the world, these are certainly chaotic times. It’s hard to turn on the news and feel some sense of chaos. There is contention in Washington, mass shootings in several states, foreign governments hacking our systems, and police brutality. Life can feel overwhelmingly grim when you place your focus on these things. Finding peace in such chaotic times can seem almost impossible, but there is a peace that was given to us that can not be found in the world around us.

Where Peace Comes From

If your looking around you for peace, you aren’t going to find it. The answer to chaos will not come from Washington, foreign governments, or the police. Obviously, these entities can contribute to making our world a better place to live. However, true peace comes from only one source.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 NLT

Finding Peace

First, it’s important to check your sources. What I mean by that is you have to be mindful of what you’re allowing to fill your mind and space. If you have CNN running all day, you might want to take a break for a few hours. Give your mind time to dwell on something else. Take this time, instead to write out some things you’re grateful for. Watch something that makes you laugh. Read the word of God and what He has to say about your life.

Instead of dwelling on how horrible everything seems to be, start to pray. Pray for the people affected by shootings and wars. Pray for godly leaders to fill high positions. Write down the promises of God and post them in places you’re sure to look everyday. Peace is available to you. You just have to take hold of it.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” John 14:27 NLT
