It’s scarf season! I happen to be a huge fan of scarves. It is an easy accessory to any outfit. You can take a simple outfit and make it fabulous by adding a patterned scarf. It’s as easy as that! Everybody has a day when you don your favorite pair of skinny jeans and throw on your favorite tee but it’s just not enough. It looks unfinished. Accessorizing with scarves is the finishing touch. It’s the perfect accessory, especially for this time of year.
Not sure how to wear them? Want to change it up? Here are just a few ways to get the best use out of your scarf!
Perhaps the easiest way to wear a scarf is like a shawl. Simply drape it over your shoulders and you are good to go! It really is that simple, I promise! It is perfect for dressing up a casual outfit. Adding a scarf shawl to your outfit automatically makes it look like you spent more time on outfit preparation than you actually did. Isn’t that what we all want; to look like a model in a matter of minutes? Choose a scarf with a bold pattern or fringe to go for that Kimono look. The best part is, it looks good on everyone! Perfection!
I call this the Bib look. It’s pretty self explanatory. This style is like a big bold statement necklace but with more statement and less bling. Conveniently, this style also works great when you spill coffee on your favorite shirt. Grab a cute scarf and make a bib.
- Start by folding the scarf half long ways. Wrap it around your neck, bring one edge up to your neckline and tuck it in your collar.
- Wrap the other side around your neck like a traditional scarf, as shown in the picture.
- There you have it! It is super simple and it looks great! Nobody will ever know that underneath your adorable bib scarf there is a huge stain from this mornings venti soy latte with extra foam. Don’t worry, it will be out little secret!
Is it getting too chilly out to only use the scarf as an accessory? If so, this style is your go to. It is perfect for jazzing up your jacket. You can pretty much tie it any way you would like and tuck it under your jacket collar. I like the messy knot approach. Start by wrapping it backwards and then back around front into a knot. Fluff and pull out the edges to make it messy. Go for it!
This is my new favorite. It is so easy and works great with that shirt that is just too short. This style gives you some length so it is perfect for everybody’s other favorite accessory… leggings. Choose a large square scarf instead of the traditional rectangular. Decide which side you want to be longer, the front or the back. This will dictate where to make your slits. Use a measuring tape to make sure they are even. Cut them and try it out to make sure it works. I don’t really think you can mess it up. Once you have done one, you are going to want to do more, I promise! Go ahead a buy a few… you won’t regret it.
These are just a few simple ways to accessorize with scarves. There are tons more. Don’t be afraid to use your imagination and experiment with different looks. Find the style that fits you best and makes you feel the most comfortable. Winter is coming soon and there will be plenty of months to show off your new scarf accessories. I think it is time to go shopping!
