God desires to spend time with us. Isn’t that amazing! The Creator, our Heavenly Father, our Lord, desires our time. Often we don’t give Him any of our time; coming up with excuses on a daily basis. Excuses like, I’m too tired, I have things to get done, etc. Whatever the excuse, God will always desire to be more intimate with us. So how do we do that? What does being intimate with God look like?
Spend Time in His Word
The way we can listen to what God has to tell us is by reading His word. God teaches us so much when we read and spend time listening. Sometimes reading His word and listening does not come easily. As you read, the message He is trying to tell you may not become clear until you look back at what you read and review any notes you have taken.
Spend Time in Prayer
The next important part of being intimate with God is talking to Him. Sure we have a lot to learn by listening, but God wants to hear what we have to say too. When you talk to Him, be open. There is nothing you will say that will surprise Him. In fact, He already knows what you are going to say but He wants to hear you talk to Him. Talk to the Lord when you are happy, sad, angry or just need someone to talk to.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:6
Come As You Are
You don’t have to be perfect to talk to God or be intimate with Him. He wants to see even the deepest, ugliest hurt in your heart and life. He wants to be there to help you heal and grow.
Come now, let us settle the matter, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. Isaiah 1:18
