Why Christians Shouldn’t Give Up on the Church

Many people today have given up on the church. Why? Maybe it’s uncomfortable to sit with a crowd that they don’t know. Maybe they think it’s a waste of time or the church doesn’t fit the needs of the new generation. Regardless of what the reason may be, Christians should not give up on the church.

God Ordained the Church

When Jesus left the Apostles, he told them to go out and make disciples of every nation. The Apostles then evangelized to as many Gentile countries as they could, bringing thousands into the church. At each new location, Paul set up elders and ministers of the Gospel. Paul wrote letters to these churches to make sure they were following Jesus’ commands. God ordained the church from the start of the Old Testament in Israel to the New Church in the New Testament. The gathering together of Christians for worship was one of Jesus’ last commands for his beloved Apostles. Jesus said:

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 (NLT).

So, it is vital that Christians stay together as a unified Body.

Support & Worship

Going to church allows Christians to support one another, especially when times get tough. Go to church and make friends with fellow believers. They are people just like you and me with their own struggles and needs. If you reach out, you will be rewarded. God promised that His Spirit would be upon the church and His people. Worshipping together builds a strong love for Christ. Remember, when two or more are gathered, God is present. Imagine the power of a church versus an individual. The results are amazing.

Find A Church You Love

There are so many different denominations and non-denominational churches out there that there is bound to be one that you like. Think about what kind of worship you want. Singing, praise, and worship, a Holy Spirit filled church, or a “come as you are” church. They are all waiting for you. You can visit different churches until you find one that you like. Make sure it’s a perfect fit where you’ll feel comfortable going each week.

Don’t Give Up

There are millions of Christians in America and beyond and if we all start avoiding church there’s going to be a big problem. Just think, if Peter and Paul had not gone and evangelized and just kept Christianity to Jerusalem, Christianity would not have become what it is today. As Christians, our duty is to bring others to Christ, but if we stop going to church and neglect the fellowship of our brothers and sisters, Christianity won’t survive.
