Building A Prayer Life

The best way I can begin this is with a reference. Imagine you have a boyfriend (or if you do just think of him) and imagine going a week without speaking to him. Crazy right?! Well then, why are you not speaking to God in weeks? If you want a deep, emotional, invested relationship with God you need to talk to him! Prayer is key.

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” NLT Philippians 4: 6-7

The key word there is everything. God wants to hear the good and bad, the anxiety ridden and the joy bringing; he wants to be part of your life. God knows what happens everyday (he’s God, duh!) but nonetheless he wants to hear from you. He wants your time and love, just like any earthly person, but he’s the creator of the universe. What an honor that the creator of the universe just wants to spend time with you, a flawed human being, his most precious creation.

Prayer is essential for building a life in Christ, spending time with him and being in conversation with him is so pleasing to the Lord.

The first step to making prayer part of your daily life is to pray with attention to timing, as in, make a schedule of times and things to pray about. That does not mean you just make generic prayers that don’t have your heart behind them but it means that praying way more than before dinner. Praying throughout the day and keeping in constant communication with God is so important in building an intimate relationship with God.

Being intentional with prayer is so important no matter what time of day you’re praying. The easiest way to remember how to pray is the phrase A.C.T.S (adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication). First and foremost always praise God for all His greatness and how awesome He is. Next, is to confess your sins to Christ, and give thanks for God’s forgiveness and blessings. Lastly, ask God with his aid with what matters in your life and for others. Praying isn’t always about asking for things. Showing praise to God is so important through prayer because it is a direct conversation with Christ and He does want to feel appreciated for His many gifts in your life.

“Rejoice always, pray continually,  give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT

Another important element to prayer your life is a small group, youth group, or bible study. Being surrounded by fellow christians are so important when it comes to individual prayer. Scripture says that when one or more are gathered together in Christ’s name than His presence is there. Having a stable group of individuals that are struggling with similar things that you’re struggling with is such a helpful tool for accountability and trust. Being in the word is crucial when it comes to prayer and intimacy with Christ, the word of God is living and is one of the strongest ways God communicates with us.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Prayer is oh so important to any christian, but especially one who is fully seeking a deep and intimate relationship with God and with others. Prayer takes time and patience to master, but God appreciates any prayer from his precious child. All God wants is a relationship with you and I promise no human being could ever love you as much as God love you! So let yourself fall into his arms and have a deep, deep conversation with him.
