Ahh, Barcelona. Such a beautiful place. So rich and full of history. If you’re thinking of heading to Barcelona, the best time to visit is between April and June, and then again from mid-September through mid-December. The winters in Barcelona are cool enough for a jacket, but not so cold that you can’t get out and explore. The summers are occasionally hot, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees. Al fresco dining, or eating outside in the warm summer air, is one of Spain’s greatest pleasures. The best way to explore Barcelona is on foot, but there are taxis, subways, and trams (think old school trolley cars from San Francisco). There are thousands of places to explore in Barcelona, but here are three that should be on your list once you arrive:
No overseas travel destination is complete without passage through Rome. The city is filled with ancient ruins and the perfect place for someone who has a traveler’s heart and a passion for history. In planning your trip to Rome, be mindful that the best time to visit is between spring and fall. The summers can often be sweltering from the heat and air conditioning hard to find. Most of Rome’s beauty can be discovered on foot, but it also offers alternative transportation as well, both above and underground. Children under the age of 10 travel free as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Once you arrive in beautiful Rome, here are your top three destinations to visit:
While not usually on everyone’s must see for overseas traveling, Jamaica is a hidden gem. My mom visited Jamaica when she was my age on a class trip and fell in love with it. They were studying the anthropology, history, and customs of the people that lived there, and the one that stood out to me was the story of visiting a woman high in the mountain area. Apparently, she used a coffin as a couch. No one was entirely sure if the coffin was EMPTY, and no one wanted to ask and found out. Jamaica is considered the birthplace of reggae music, and its capital, Kingston, is the birthplace of the man of reggae himself, Bob Marley. Upon arrival, there are three places you have to visit:
Jolly old England! Last but not least on our list of best overseas travel destinations, we simply cannot forget London. Tourist season in London is heaviest during the months of April through September, and the late spring is the best time to see all the beautiful gardens. If you’re looking for a city that knows how to do Christmas, then I suggest visiting London during the Christmas season. The lights are stunning, and the way the city decorates itself is amazing! The best way to get around this massive city? A good map and public transportation. When visiting London, it’s highly encouraged that you see and do the following three things:
- Guided sightseeing tours atop double-decker buses
- If you are a fan of the scary, check out the Blood and Tears Walk
- Visit Buckingham Palace
